When was the last time you wished you could use flash on your iPad? Did you wish to have windows on your iPad? Well now you can thanks to onlive desktop. I read about this in the New York Times this morning. It is a small free app that allows you to run windows. It is cloud computing at its best. You get the full windows experience without any of the headaches. The stand suite of office applications are already installed and ready for our use. You even get 2Gb of useable space. All this for free in the standard edition.

If you want to surf the net and view flash enabled websites for example, you simply upgrade to the plus service for $5 per month.

But don’t take my word for it, go check it out for yourself!

The introduction of Daylite Touch solved many issues one had with portability of data from Daylite. However, it did not solve the issue of needing your contacts on the address book side of things for caller id etc. Most us have this need to be able to identify our callers on our iPhones. This had been possible by synchronizing Daylite with one’s address book and in turn with one’s iPhone. While it was a shaky setup at best, it worked most of the time. However, with the introduction of iCloud, the delicate balance between synchronizing Daylite with address book and in turn MobileMe was no more

As soon as you upgrade to iCloud, your Apple address book will change. You will now have an “iCloud”. So far so good…however, as soon the synchronization between daylite and address book is turned on, the iCloud settings break. you will now have an “iCloud” and “On My Mac” set of contacts. Essentially they will be duplicates and if you make a change in one, it will not synchronize with the other. The way to get around this is to manually copy the cards from the “On My Mac” list into the “iCloud” list. This will update/merge the cards and keep your iCloud address book current. While not terribly difficult, it is very inconvenient. I believe that simpler & easier solution is always best. But sometimes it is not as straight forward to setup “simple & easy”.

You can successfully manage you contacts in Daylite and sync them through to your iPhone/iPad by using Google Sync., with little effort on an ongoing basis. You will need to spend some time to make sure that it is setup correctly.

Here is what you need: 1 new gmail account with no contact information. Alternatively, you can use your existing gmail account, but you will need archive your contacts & remove them from your gmail account

Step 1 – Turn off iCloud contact sync with your Mac.

Step 2 – Setup Google sync within your address book.

Step 3 – Setup Gmail on your iPhone/iPad. Here is the trick, you need to set it up using “exchange” as the type of email account. Use your user gmail account password. Leave the “domain” field blank. Once validation begins, this screen will change and ask you for a server name. In this field enter “m.google.com”. That’s it you are almost done. If you want, you can change the label for this account from “exchange” to something for better identification.

Step 4 – Once verification has completed, simply turn on contacts. You will now see “Google” as an entry in your iPhone/iPad address book.

This will keep in sync with Daylite, as long as your Mac is working correctly. While many of you had probably already figured it out, it was worth a mention.

We love doing what we can to accomplish our clients goals. We have just completed a multi-location setup, that was challenge from the start. Beginning with no technical resources on the other end, to vendor screw-up with continual shipment or erroneous parts. This was a test of patience. Through all this we managed to navigate the hurdles and got the basic install taken care of prior to the final due date, but going to the other location and doing it our selves.

Another example of our go getter work ethic. we don’t quit until the job is done! Thanks to my team for all the long hours and hard work.

When the iPhone 4S was announced, I was disappointed that it did not have a new body and greater physical appeal. I was not even sure that I wanted to get one. After all, I was quite happy with the iPhone 4.

Being a gadget lover, I decided to go ahead and get it. I had no idea what I was getting my self into. Siri has changed the the way I interact with my phone. Accuracy of voice recognition has always been a challenge, but Apple seems to have solved that for most part with Siri. It is truly amazing, how fast and accurately words can be transcribed, not to mention extract your command from your spoken requests.

So while, there might be over 200 new features in the new iPhone 4S, Siri is the one that I am in love with.

If you don’t like to type or have fat fingers, like I do, you too will fall in love with Siri. What’s more is that’s he understands accents better than any voice recognition software, I have ever encountered. Many of my non-native American friends have think accents. While the voice activated system in their cars don’t understand them, Siri most certainly does.

My hope is that this sort of innovation has truly been woven into the DNA of Apple, and does not end with the passing of Steve Jobs!

Daylite 3.15 has been finalized and is scheduled to be released in the next 24-48 hours. Here is a list of enhancements

Daylite

• Daylite will warn the user if the offline being used is overdue for a sync.

• If automatic background sync has been disabled, then this will be indicated in the offline sync status message in the main window.
• Daylite will automatically detect if its location on the disk has been changed and update the offline sync mechanism, so that background syncs continue to occur.
• If the current backup path is invalid, then the default backup path will be used for creating backups during database updates.
• Added a new Daylite Teacher template. This template helps teaching professionals to understand how they can customize and use Daylite in their profession to achieve their goals and objectives.

Daylite Server Admin

• If the current backup path is invalid, then the default backup path will be used for creating backups during database updates.

Bug Fixes

Daylite

• Fixed issue where Daylite was not reporting when an offline database was reset and needed to be re-created.
• Fixed issue where importing vCards was causing a crash.
• Fixed issue where Mail would not open and compose a new message when an email address is clicked.
• Fixed issue where entering a title after stopping the task timer was causing a crash.
• Fixed issue with Auto-Dialer crashes.
• Fixed issue with preference pane crashes.
• Fixed crashes in few sample databases.
• Fixed issue causing comments on new line items not being saved.

Daylite Server Admin

• Fixed issue with Touch Sync on Lion OS.
• Fixed issue with Daylite Server Admin concerning the resume feature on Lion OS.

Daylite Mail Integration
